Classroom Lecture

Welcome

We're so glad you're here! The Somerville Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is dedicated to supporting families of children with disabilities in Somerville Public Schools. On this site, you'll find a wealth of information and resources designed to help you navigate the special education process and advocate for your child.

Our Mission

Our mission is to facilitate communication between students, parents, community members, administrators, and the School Committee, for the purpose of improving the quality of district-wide special education policies, programs, and practices. The Somerville SEPAC offers the opportunity to raise questions, to voice your concerns, and to provide direct input to administrators regarding Special Education.

Our Vision

A public school system with equal access to student opportunities and education for students with disabilities, where all students needs are met and are supported in realizing their full potential.

Somerville SEPAC Listening Initiative

Our advocacy strength is reliant on community voices. The goal of this initiative is to map trends and patterns through the district as it relates to the needs of Special Education families so that we can keep an accurate pulse on the health and well being of our community and advocate accordingly.

  • Concerned, confused, or excited about an interaction or experience with special education- positive, negative or neutral and want to get it off your chest?

  • Did you have a positive, neutral, or negative experience with a program(s) and want to make sure it is available in future years or that changes are made?

  • Are you confused about services for your child?

  • Do you want to connect with a parent to discuss the experiences you/your student are navigating?

  • Do you want to anonymously let SSEPAC know your thoughts, wins, concerns or feedback?

  • Did you recently lose services or gain much needed services for your child?

  • Want to leave contact information so that we can connect and further discuss what you/your student are navigating or maybe you want to make new connections with families navigating similar situations?

  • Do you feel like you need additional support navigating the special education system?

Any and all of the above noted reasons are why this form is for you. We want to hear about your specific experience in whatever amount of detail you feel comfortable in providing.
